Are Mechanical Organs the Wild West of Health Care or the Logical Solution to Organ Shortages?
. One thing is for sure, the development of mechanical organs is a science in its infancy. The opportunities for growth and development are vast and unknown. This is so important with the development of informatics and how it is infiltrating our every day life. It wasn't that long ago that the first mechanical heart was transplanted. Over the years with the advancement of technology, this has become almost routine. Companies will continue to finance research and run clinical trials as long as the need for these organs exists. We are fortunate to live in an age where we will most likely be able to use this for our own health and live a longer, more productive life Even though the cost of developing this technology is great, perhaps much like my DVD player, competition and mass production will keep the cost in check. If not, I hope it is Jude Law who shows up for my past due liver !
