Mechanical Organs - Obvious choice or future fantasy?
· Imagine a world where the demand for human organ donors is eliminated. What if we could design and transplant mechanical organs? The wait list for organ donations would be virtually eliminated and the risk of disease or other complications much reduced. The economic benefits could be huge. We are already spending a large amount of the health care budget on costs related to organ failure. The cost of treating chronic disease and complications associated with this are incredible. The development of mechanical organs could provide a cure instead of managing a diseased organ. There has already been remarkable growth in the science of developing mechanical organs. Perhaps with the success of mechanical organs, internal organ failure could become a thing of the past; for those who can afford the treatments, at least.
Consider the movie "REPO MEN". In this clip, Jude Law reposseses organs bought on credit that the new owners have fallen behind paying for.
